As scientists, we studied different properties of soil using many of our senses and tools that we learned about earlier in the school year.
|
To help become more familiar with reading maps and finding different locations, we used the coordinates on a map to locate cities. |
|
We are having a blast investigating force and motion using Hot Wheels. |
Students completed a science experiment to investigate three types of soil's ability to retain water. |
We have been studying how changes to the Earth's surface are caused by weathering, erosion, and deposition. This week we went on a "Field Trip" to the area behind our portable to look for evidence of W, E, & D. We also looked at a variety of rocks to see the different particles that often make new rocks.

Our class got to chat via Google Hangout with Mark Cheverton, the author of the Minecraft book series. We learned about his journey he had as he worked to write and publish many of his books. Thank you Mr. Cheverton for this wonderful opportunity. We loved your quote: "Failure means you haven't found the right path yet."

Our class has been busy learning about the different elements of poetry. In one of our class lessons we learned how line breaks effect how a poem is read. Here are a few poems that were created by different table groups.

What a wonderful day of thinking! We collaborated to dissect and analyze the poem Moon by Myra Cohn.

We are learning about ecosystems and their environment. Take a look at our food webs we made using individual food chains and linking them together.

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works, students worked together to connect to our line of inquiry, how humans make modifications in response to societal and environmental factors, and identify how our school is working to make modifications that positively impact our environment.
We took pictures at some of the different locations in and around our school were we were able to identify some of these modifications. |

We began our water unit with a fun demonstration of how an aquifer works, recharges, and the effects we can have on an aquifer. |
We love using MinecraftEDU as a tool to demonstrate what we have learned. In our pictures we are using MinecraftEDU to show how our natural world changes due to human relationships and modifications. |
